Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp canola oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp minced ginger
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 lb shaved beef steak
  • 3 Tbsp cornstarch
  • White or brown rice, prepared
  • Lima beans or other vegetable of choice, prepared

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tsp of the canola oil in a small saucepan. Add ginger and garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add soy sauce and brown sugar and cook until it becomes a glaze. Set aside.
  2. Meanwhile, toss shaved beef in cornstarch.
  3. Heat about 2 tsp of canola oil in a large pan. Add a few pieces of the saved beef, ensuring that you are not overcrowding the pan. Cook the beef through, flipping halfway. Remove the beef from the pan and onto a plate with a paper towel. Add more oil and repeat with the remainder of the beef.
  4. Once all the beef is cooked, drain oil from the pan and add the beef back to the pan along with the prepared glaze. Allow mixture to combine and heat up and glaze to thicken, about 5 minutes.
  5. Serve with rice, vegetables, and top with scallions and sesame seeds, if desired.
